with banks laying off staff, big retailers shutting down, eventually its going to lead to too much commercial space available. So how much is it going to cost the taxpayers to bail that industry out?

This is coming and will destroy banks across America!! Savings for everyone will be lost. Why is this not discussed and dismissed in the news? The upcoming Great Depression will far surpass the 1st Great Depression and make our recent depression look like a dip on the charts. How can this catastrophe be passed on to the public Before it becomes reality? The reality is already in place….

Did you ever consider that this is not in the news is because it is not true. Commercial real estate has declined in the past 4 years, but in many cities commercial vacancies are falling and rents are increasing. As the economy improves, as it surely will in the next 24 months, you will see that real estate prices will increase again. There was no big bubble in commercial real estate, but it is the residential market which needs to improve first.

I’d like to know what other properties similar to mine were selling for in January 2008, is there a place online that I can find this information?

Two possibilities:
The easiest is to just talk to a realtor – they can easily check this through the MLS data. We are used to getting questions like this.
The other one is the tax office, you won’t get the sales price for a given time, but it will let you know if the assessments are similar to yours. If you have MPAC you can request information on similar properties.
